Position: Teacher Assistant, Special Education – Therapeutic Learning Center (TLC)
Position Summary: Wayland Public Schools is seeking compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistants to support students in the Therapeutic Learning Center (TLC) Program. The TLC serves students whose social, emotional, and behavioral needs impact their ability to access the educational environment successfully.
Under the supervision of the TLC Lead Teacher and in collaboration with counselors, BCBAs, and related service providers, Teaching Assistants provide direct student support while promoting academic, social-emotional, and behavioral growth.
Responsibilities
- Support students in TLC and general education settings
- Reinforce academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and executive functioning skills
- Assist students with self-regulation, coping, problem-solving, and social skills
- Implement behavior support plans and classroom interventions
- Use positive reinforcement and de-escalation strategies
- Support transitions, classroom activities, lunch, specials, and field trips
- Collect and share student progress data
- Assist with classroom organization and instructional materials
- Collaborate with educators, counselors, and related service providers
- Maintain confidentiality and a safe, supportive learning environment
- Perform other duties as assigned
Professional Development
The TLC Program provides ongoing support and training, including:
- Weekly staff training and coaching
- Social-emotional learning and behavior management strategies
- Trauma-informed practices
- Positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques
- Student-specific training and support plans
- Annual Safety Care certification
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred
- Experience working with children or adolescents preferred
- Experience supporting students with social, emotional, or behavioral needs strongly preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Schedule & Compensation
Hours: 30.08 hours per week
Schedule:
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 7:45 AM – 2:30 PM
- Wednesday: 7:30 AM – 1:35 PM
Salary: $25.63 – $33.89 per hour
