Position: Kindergarten Teacher
Position Summary: Wayland Public Schools is seeking a dedicated, skilled, and caring Kindergarten Teacher to join our team. This role is ideal for an educator who creates a warm, welcoming classroom community where high expectations, safe and predictable routines, and strong relationships support student success. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in foundational literacy instruction grounded in the Science of Reading, early numeracy development, and developmentally appropriate teaching practices. The Kindergarten Teacher will foster students’ academic, social, and emotional growth while collaborating effectively with colleagues and families to support all learners.
Duties and Responsibilities (Not limited to):
- Create a warm, inclusive classroom environment that supports all learners through clear expectations, consistent routines, and positive classroom management practices
- Deliver engaging, standards-based instruction across all core subject areas, with a strong emphasis on foundational literacy skills, oral language development, phonological awareness, phonics, vocabulary, and early numeracy concepts
- Implement high-quality instructional materials (HQIM), including Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) and Bridges in Mathematics, with fidelity and responsiveness to meet the diverse needs of students
- Utilize evidence-based literacy practices aligned with the Science of Reading to develop students’ foundational reading and writing skills
- Use assessment data to monitor student progress, inform instruction, and provide targeted support and enrichment
- Collaborate with colleagues, specialists, and families to support student learning and well-being
- Implement Wayfinder, our district SEL curriculum. Support students’ social-emotional and academic growth through responsive teaching practices and relationship building
- Create opportunities for purposeful play, exploration, inquiry, and hands-on learning experiences that support young children's development
- Maintain a safe, organized, and engaging learning environment that promotes independence, curiosity, and a love of learning
- Participate in school and district initiatives, professional learning opportunities, and collaborative planning
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or related field required; Master’s preferred
- Experience: Previous experience working with elementary-aged children is highly preferred.
- Cultural Competency: Experience with diverse populations and a strong commitment to Wayland’s goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Instructional Expertise: Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based literacy instruction, early numeracy development, and effective classroom management practices that foster a positive and productive learning environment
Professionalism: Strong communication skills and the personal characteristics necessary to serve as a positive role model for students.
Education and Experience:
- Advanced Degree: Master's degree preferred.
- DESE Licensure: MA DESE licensure (PK–2 or K–6)
- SEI Endorsement: Evidence of Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement is mandatory.
Work Schedule and Compensation:
- Salary: Commensurate with experience and in accordance with the Wayland Teachers’ Association (WTA) collective bargaining agreement. Example: Master’s through Master’s 30 range $95,754 - $126,651
- Work Schedule: 2026–2027 School Year; school-year schedule in alignment with the WEA contract Unit A
