General Manager - Mechanical Test Services Laboratory

Job Summary

Clark Testing is seeking a General Manager for its Western Michigan-based Mechanical Test Laboratory. The GM is responsible for management of entire operations including Safety, Quality, Personnel, Revenue, Workload, Facilities, Equipment, and ensuring security oversite for confidential, proprietary, and secure test programs. Our company is looking for a highly motivated team leader who can set objectives and meet goals. Selected candidate will have P&L responsibility with compensation proportionate to success.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

• Responsible for oversight of laboratory staff including engineers, technicians, and administrative staff.
• Coordinate laboratory services in accordance with contract requirements.
• Administer and enforce safety program and OSHA compliance of entire operation.
• Ensure strict adherences with company’s Quality Assurance (QA) standards.
• Responsible for P&L including laboratory financial performance.
• Monitor and control costs and expenses of laboratory.
• Lead efforts to increase lab sales, generate new business opportunities, and cultivate customer relationships.
• Able and willing to seek out and develop new customers.
• Motivate engineering, technical, and administrative team to ensure employee job satisfaction.
• Communicate with customers to ensure lab meets client expectations.
• Exercise creative management skills to implement and drive process improvements.
• Ability to manage shifting priorities, demands and timelines.
• Team leader with excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Setting the expectation for team building and cross-training in a culture where employees feel valued and heard.
  
  

Qualifications & Competency Requirements

• Experience in business management, planning, and profit center oversight.
• Bachelor’s degree along with several years of practical hands-on engineering management preferred.
• Experience with testing, product qualification, and certification.
• Working knowledge of testing standards is preferred.
• Familiarity with mechanical engineering disciplines including:
• Hydraulics
• Structural
• Rotary and power train testing
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strict compliance with regulatory, security and confidentiality requirements.
• Commitment to ethical business practices and maintaining high integrity.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and willingness to meet demanding schedule when necessary.
• Commitment to leading and enforcing exceptional housekeeping, 5S, safety, and health expectations.
• Must be a U.S. citizen and able to complete pass drug screening and background checks and drug screening.
  
  

This is a salaried Exempt, professional position.
