Description
The Night Shift Assistant Foreman supports the Foreman in supervising and coordinating warehouse operations during the night shift. This role ensures the efficient, safe, and accurate handling, storage, and shipment of goods while maintaining productivity and quality standards. The Assistant Foreman leads a team of warehouse employees, assists with shift planning, reporting, and equipment maintenance, while ensuring compliance with company policies, FDA, USDA, HACCP, and company food handling standards.
Leadership & Supervision
- Support the Night Shift Foreman in managing warehouse personnel and assigning tasks to meet delivery schedules.
- Provide training, coaching, and performance feedback to warehouse staff.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and a safety-first culture on the night shift.
- Able to positively direct employees, follow up on tasks, and hold employees accountable.
Warehouse Operations
- Oversee receiving, picking, staging, loading, and shipping of products according to company and customer requirements.
- Ensure temperature-sensitive items are stored, handled, and shipped within proper temperature ranges.
- Able to use data, to drive the direction for operational improvements.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure FIFO (First-In, First-Out) rotation of perishable items.
- Coordinate with logistics and transportation teams to ensure on-time and accurate deliveries.
- Conduct end-of-shift audits.
Food Safety & Compliance
- Maintain warehouse sanitation and housekeeping standards to meet food-grade facility requirements.
- Monitor cooler and freezer temperatures and report any variances immediately.
- Ensure proper use of PPE, food safety garments, and sanitation chemicals.
Equipment & Facility
- Oversee safe operation of forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment.
- Report maintenance issues promptly to ensure minimal downtime.
- Ensure proper cleaning and maintenance schedules are followed.
Reporting & Communication
- Communicate effectively with day-shift leadership regarding inventory, equipment, and personnel updates.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, food safety, and team performance.
Qualifications
Knowledge of warehouse operations, inventory systems, and safety standards.
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
Forklift certification or willingness to obtain one preferred.
Proficient with warehouse management systems (WMS) and basic computer applications.
The job requires extensive amount of stooping, bending, carrying, kneeling, walking, and moving bulky packages and boxes of heavy materials potentially weighing up to 100lbs. All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others, or to otherwise demonstrate or explain how they can perform the essential functions of the job.
