This role offers the opportunity to support a wide range of municipal, FDOT, and other public-sector projects while working with modern surveying and geospatial technologies. The position is well-suited for both early-career professionals and those with several years of experience who want to expand their technical skills, take on greater responsibility, and grow toward Surveyor in Training (SIT) or Professional Surveyor and Mapper (PSM) licensure.
Responsibilities:
- Support the development of high-quality survey deliverables including control plans, field procedures, calculations, CAD drafting, and QA/QC checks.
- Process field data from conventional surveying, GNSS (static and RTK), digital leveling, terrestrial/mobile LiDAR, and UAS/aerial mapping.
- Generate accurate digital terrain models (DTMs), surfaces, and point clouds using multiple data sources.
- Assist with managing survey datasets, organizing field information, and distributing data to internal project teams and clients.
- Research and interpret benchmarks, deeds, plats, right-of-way documents, and other survey records to support boundary and topographic work.
- Perform boundary and R/W calculations with guidance from senior survey staff, progressing toward independent analysis.
- Prepare field crew packages and surveyor’s reports, including maps, control points, sketches, and project notes.
- Conduct or support field data collection activities as needed, including GNSS surveys, total station work, LiDAR capture, and UAS missions.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field crews to maintain project schedules, accuracy standards, and documentation.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with survey and CAD software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, Trimble Business Center, or similar tools.
- Strong understanding—or willingness to learn—survey computations, geodesy, and field-to-finish workflows.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for working with field crews, internal teams, and clients.
- Strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and a commitment to producing accurate survey data.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and contribute to a collaborative project team environment.
- Self-motivated, eager to learn, and interested in long-term professional growth within the surveying field.
- Subsurface utility engineering (SUE) experience is a plus.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geomatics, Surveying and Mapping, or a closely related discipline.
- 0 to 3 years of experience in land surveying, geomatics, or related work.
- Registration as a Surveyor in Training (SIT), or successful completion of the Fundamentals of Surveying Exam.
