Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our construction team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience operating various types of heavy machinery on construction sites, ensuring safe and efficient project completion. This role requires a strong understanding of construction processes, mechanical systems, and equipment maintenance. The Heavy Equipment Operator will be responsible for operating machinery such as dozers, loaders, backhoes, excavators, cranes, and trucks to support diverse construction projects.
Duties
- Operate a variety of heavy equipment including dozers, loaders, backhoes, excavators, cranes, and trucks (front loader truck, dump truck, water truck, roll-off truck) in accordance with safety standards and project specifications
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance on machinery to ensure optimal performance and safety
- Assist with site preparation, grading, excavation, and material handling tasks
- Coordinate with project managers and team members to execute construction plans effectively
- Load and unload materials using appropriate equipment such as forklifts or loaders
- Follow all safety protocols and regulations to maintain a secure work environment
- Maintain detailed records of equipment usage and maintenance activities
- Operate specialized machinery including concrete mixers, farm machinery, tankers, and other construction-related equipment as needed
Qualifications
- Proven experience operating heavy construction equipment such as dozers, loaders, backhoes, excavators, cranes, and various trucks (including front loader trucks and dump trucks)
- Construction site experience is highly preferred
- Mechanical knowledge to perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance on machinery
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) is required for operating certain vehicles like tankers or large trucks
- Familiarity with Caterpillar equipment and other major brands is advantageous
- Ability to work safely in a fast-paced construction environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to work well within a team
- Knowledge of construction safety standards and practices
