What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pipelayer (Civil Construction Underground Utilities) position at Civil Constructors?
Location: Metro Nashville & Surrounding Counties
Schedule: Monday–Saturday (occasional nights as needed)
Employment Type: Full-Time
About the Role
Civil Constructors is seeking skilled Pipelayers to join our team. In this role, you will install underground piping systems that support critical water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure. We’re looking for dependable team members who can work safely, follow instructions, and contribute to high‑quality construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Dig, grade, and prepare trenches for underground piping installation
- Lay pipe sections and connect joints according to project specifications
- Operate heavy equipment to remove and replace soil and materials (as needed)
- Set trench grades using lasers and transit levels
- Cut, fit, and seal various types of piping materials
- Operate small powered tools such as tampers and cutting equipment
- Perform general labor duties including site preparation, shoring, scaffolding, and maintaining a clean jobsite
- Assist foreman/superintendent with additional assigned duties
Required Skills & Abilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Strong interpersonal communication; able to work well with a diverse crew
- Ability to adapt to changing tasks and assignments
- Logical thinking and ability to compare field conditions to project drawings
- Ability to read blueprints and utility plans (preferred)
Experience & Certification Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience installing underground utilities in a trenching environment

Willing and able to obtain certifications in:
- Trenching & Excavation
- Confined Space Entry
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 80 lbs and push/pull up to 50 lbs
- Ability to stand, walk, and climb in/out of trenches for extended periods
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Comfortable working a 6-day workweek and nights when required
Work Environment
- Job sites vary throughout Metro Nashville and surrounding counties
- Reliable personal transportation is required
