Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Asphalt Screed Operator to join our paving crew. The ideal candidate will have experience operating the screed component of an asphalt paver to ensure proper depth, width, and grade of asphalt during road construction and resurfacing projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate the screed on an asphalt paver to distribute and level asphalt material to specified thickness and width.
- Monitor and adjust screed settings including temperature, flow rate, and vibration to ensure consistent quality.
- Work closely with the paver operator and ground crew to maintain smooth and efficient paving operations.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on screed equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies at all times.
- Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate paving activities and resolve issues.
- Assist with setup and breakdown of equipment at job sites.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience operating asphalt paving equipment, specifically screed controls.
- Strong understanding of asphalt paving techniques and materials.
- Ability to read and interpret grade stakes and blueprints.
- Physical stamina to work in outdoor environments and lift heavy materials.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Skills:
- Certification in heavy equipment operation.
- Experience with automated screed systems.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations and standards.
Working Conditions:
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Exposure to loud noise, dust, and heavy machinery.
- May require overtime and weekend work depending on project schedules.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Tolerance for working in outdoor environments with exposure to heat, cold, dust, and noise.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate controls and tools.
- Must be able to climb onto and off of heavy equipment safely.
- Occasional extended hours and weekend work may be required depending on project needs.

- Job locations are generally located within a 50-mile radius of downtown Nashville
- Candidates must have reliable transportation to get to the job sites.
