DEPUTY CHIEF PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER Queens County District Attorney Office New York City Full Time Compensation: $170,000 to $180,000 Annually New York City Government The Office of the Queens County District Attorney (QDA) is seeking a Deputy Chief Public Information Officer to assist the Chief Public Information Officer in overseeing all public information and communications efforts. The Public Information Department interacts with media and other constituencies about the workings and policies of QDA, Queens Criminal Court and the New York criminal justice system. Public Information writes and distributes press releases about noteworthy arrests and cases, coordinates media events, fields and follows up on media inquiries, drafts remarks, and produces materials both on-line and in print that promote the services of the Office. The Department is responsible for multi-platform social media presence. The Department works closely with the Office’s Community Partnerships Division to enhance community relations and with various bureaus (e.g., Homicide, Human Trafficking, Housing & Worker Protection, Hate Crimes, Frauds) to connect their operations to the overall mission of the Office. The Deputy Chief Public Information Officer will work at the direction of the District Attorney and the Chief Public Information Officer to achieve maximum efficiency and productivity within the Public information Office. The Deputy Chief Public Information Officer will work at the direction of the Chief Public Information Officer to oversee: Preparation and production of QDA print and digital content, including social media, website, brochures, newsletters and other outreach materials Development and maintenance of on-going relationships with national, citywide and local media Clear, accurate and efficient response to media inquiries Coordination with Bureau Chiefs and ADAs in the preparation of material related to cases Coordination and production of press conferences and other media events Maintenance of press lists to ensure they are up-to-date Photo coverage of QDA in-house and offsite events attended by the DA and senior QDA officials Special projects and other duties as assigned. Preferred Education and Qualification Requirements: Bachelor’s degree and at least 7 years of experience working in journalism, communications, public relations and/or related field or the equivalent education and/or experience. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work diligently and efficiently to meet tight deadlines along with meticulous attention to accuracy and details. A detailed understanding of courtroom procedures and the prosecution process is highly desired. Applicants must be capable of interacting with and communicating information to a wide variety of audiences, including QDA staff, members of the press, the public and public officials. Additionally, applicants should have strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and social media platforms, as well as proficiency in photo/video editing software programs including Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Dreamweaver. Preference may also be given to candidates knowledgeable of and have communications experience relating to Queens County and New York City, as well as the criminal justice system, court procedures and police issues.
