Schedule: Hybrid | Monday - Friday

Location: Downtown Chicago

Duration: Direct Hire

Compensation Package: $300,000 salary competitive bonus structure


Our client seeks a Vice President of Human Resources to play a key role in leadership of their HR division, acting as a senior business partner, aware of management needs and able to anticipate solutions. The ideal candidate will have extensive senior HR Business Partner experience, within a complex organization or corporation, with deep experience in HR strategy and all phases of day-to-day HR execution. This role reports to the SVP of Human Resources.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


HR Business Partnering 30%

  • The VP of HR will become familiar with the organization's business plans and strategies to provide all HR-related services as needed or as anticipated.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, aligning HR strategy with business priorities and driving organizational outcomes.
  • Advise senior leadership on performance, organizational design, and sensitive employee matters, maintaining strong credibility and trust.
  • Provide clear, data-driven insights and act as a key liaison to ensure alignment, consistency, and effective communication across leadership.
  • The VP HR will oversee a staff of HR Generalists/Business Partners who will collaborate across HR functions (Compensation, Benefits/Wellness, and OD&L) and non-HR functions (Finance, OGC and external resources).
  • The VP HR develops best practices and coaches HR Generalists to instill and maintain a value-added business partner mindset in working with assigned client group.
  • Leads the HR components of small and large reorganizational or other projects, overseeing the project team of HR specialists as necessary.
  • Partner with senior leadership to anticipate needs, influence decisions, and translate objectives into actionable people strategies.
  • Lead HR support for executive initiatives, including workforce planning, reorganizations, and large-scale change.


Talent Acquisition 30%

  • Leads recruiting functions including assessment, team management, sourcing and search firm (contingent and retained) selection for all positions at the Vice Presidential level and below.
  • Oversee the design and execution of the overall talent strategy to attract, hire, and retain high-caliber staff.
  • Enhance recruitment infrastructure, such as Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), reducing dependency on external agencies, and optimizing sourcing spend.
  • Work with HR leadership and hiring managers to forecast needs and improve candidate experience.


Employee Relations and Employment Compliance 20%

  • Leads employee relations and employment compliance functions. Provides expertise and makes decisions in resolving more complex issues.
  • Develops metrics to track effectiveness of HR results individually and as a group. Uses the metrics to implement process improvements, identify gaps, and determine solutions.
  • Oversees the maintenance of manual and electronic documents, files and records for the purpose of providing accurate information in compliance with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
  • Develops and maintains HR policies and processes to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations and support organizational goals and objectives.
  • Ensures compliance with state, federal, and local regulations.


Staff Management 20%

  • Lead, mentor, and provide management oversight for staff.
  • Responsible for setting objectives, evaluating employee performance, and fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Responsible for developing staff knowledge and skills to support career development.


CANDIDATE PROFILE:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred
  • 15 years of experience in Human Resources
  • HR professional certification preferred
  • 10 years of experience in people management; able to attract and develop talent
  • Deep experience as a strategic HR Business Partner, including employee relations, staffing and counseling
  • Experience leading and navigating organizational transitions to new technology and systems
  • Excellent demonstrated working knowledge and application of employment law
  • Proven experience coaching and counseling senior executive level leaders
  • Demonstrated experience managing large projects such as reorganizations or downsizings
  • Experience selecting and managing retained and contingent search firms
  • Excellent demonstrated interpersonal and presentation skills, including proven ability to interact with all levels of staff and management
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate a team environment and work as a strong individual contributor
  • Working knowledge of compensation philosophy and job grading
  • Working knowledge of talent acquisition strategies and processes
  • Demonstrated excellent judgment, decisiveness and problem solving skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to bring credibility to the human resources function through their professional qualifications and leadership and influence ability with experience building respectful and productive collaboration at the most senior levels of a large-scale, complex organization
