Job Description:
Protect Our Community. Inspect. Educate. Respond. The City of York Fire Department is seeking a full-time Fire Inspector dedicated to protecting lives and property through code enforcement, inspections, public education, and emergency response.
- Inspection & Code Compliance Conduct commercial fire and life safety inspections; review new construction and renovations for compliance with the International Fire Code (IFC); identify hazards and ensure corrective action.
- Fire & Life Safety Enforce fire codes impartially; investigate life safety complaints; prepare detailed inspection reports; issue summons and provide court testimony when required.
- Community Risk Reduction Participate in public education and community risk reduction initiatives; work collaboratively with business owners, contractors, and residents to improve safety.
- Emergency Response & EMS Respond to fire, EMS, and emergency incidents as part of the firefighting team; perform duties of an IFSAC Certified Firefighter II and provide medical care per EMT protocols.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Three (3) years of firefighter or fire inspector experience
- IFSAC Firefighter II and Fire Officer I certifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and First Due software
- Strong knowledge of fire prevention and protection systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher in Fire Science or related field
- ICC Fire Inspector I/II or Plans Examiner certification
- IFSAC Fire Investigator or Fire & Life Safety Educator
- Nationally Registered EMT (NREMT)
