Are you someone who loves staying organized, pays attention to the little things, and wants to be part of something bigger? We’re looking for a Property and Evidence Technician to join our team and help manage items that come through our police department — from found property to key pieces of evidence in ongoing investigations.

Salary / Pay Rate:
$18.35 per hour minimum with annual Step for Performance Pay Adjustments.


Essential Job Functions:

Accepts all property and evidence for processing from department members. Maintains control and security over property received. Handles, moves, lifts, and stores items of different sizes and weights. Enters computer data and maintains computer files. Generates necessary reports regarding property management. Assists Department members and general public with inquires and distribution of property and evidence. Assists with yearly property inventories. Maintains required documentation on movement and disposition of property and evidence. Testifies in court in reference to the chain of custody. This is not intended to be an all-inclusive listing of essential job functions; the performance of other essential functions may be required. The position of Technician is a civilian category position within the Winter Haven Police Department.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Good working knowledge of record keeping as well as the ability to prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports.
  • Knowledge of modem office practices, procedures, and office equipment to include a working knowledge of computer data systems.
  • Ability to climb ladders; lift, carry, and store items of irregular shape and size and weighing up to thirty-five (35) pounds; communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; maintain effective working relationships with supervisor and other employees; and maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and local laws related to property management.

Minimum Education & Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience that is determined to be directly related to the foregoing specific requirements may be substituted.
  • A working knowledge of the criminal justice system and of law enforcement operations and record keeping preferred.

Special Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid Florida driver's license and a good driving record as determined by the City of Winter Haven.
  • Absence of non-prescribed controlled substances in the applicant's system as verified by a laboratory approved by the City of Winter Haven.
