CEMETERY SEXTON
Position Title: Cemetery Sexton

Position Summary:
Under general supervision, performs lead, operational, and maintenance work at the City cemetery. Works within prescribed standards and procedures with some leeway for discretion and independent action.
Tasks:
Performs work and leads in operation and maintenance of the city cemetery
Leads maintenance workers in the digging and maintenance of graves, mowing, trimming, seeding, and watering of cemetery grounds, trees, shrubs and flower beds
Keeps up with current trends in cemetery operations
Performs openings and closings of graves, and levels graves
Locates graves
Shows lots for sale
Installs and straightens head stones
Operates a backhoe and/or mini excavator and mowers in accordance with City safety procedures
Leads a small group of workers, including pre-release inmates
Follows City policy and safe work practices
Assists in maintaining accurate burial records
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, superiors, other agencies, and the public
Deals with the public in a manner that positively promotes the image of the City and handles complaints tactfully
All employees of the City of Winfield are subject to immediate callout when an emergency, disaster or breach of homeland security occurs. Such call to respond and assist may involve those activities to his/her regular job responsibilities and incorporate other non-job-related duties as necessary and required of an employee. An employee’s response to these matters may require the working of unusual, long hours over an extended period with infrequent breaks or rest periods.

Experience and Education:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school
Three years of experience in cemetery operation and maintenance
Valid commercial driver's license
Must have or obtain supervisory certification for Department of Corrections personnel within six months of employment and requires maintaining supervisory status.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform moderate physical work and to lift 50 pounds and to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, climb, kneel, crawl, twist, pull, reach, grasp and perform similar body movements
