Summary: The Bookmobile Coordinator provides excellent library services throughout Williams County. They oversee and coordinate schedules, services, programs, and collections for patrons of all ages. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, implementing, and maintaining the entire bookmobile operation.
Supervision Received: Library Director
Essential Job Functions:
1. Plan, develop, and coordinate the entire bookmobile operation, including scheduling routes.
2. Engages in outreach to develop partnerships with schools, daycares, preschools, homeschool groups, and other community organizations and agencies.
3. Introduces literature and early literacy skill development through regular story time programs for children, and designs and prepares crafts to complement story times.
4. Monitors bookmobile collection, straightening and filling shelves, and rotating out collection as needed.
5. Demonstrates desire to further professional knowledge through attendance at various programs related to bookmobile and outreach services. Desires to develop self-potential in a professional specialty.
6. Submits required reports and budget requests.
7. Serves on library committees and attends applicable meetings.
8. Assists with system-wide programs, activities, and initiatives.
9. Utilizes effective public relations techniques and media contacts to publicize bookmobile activities and routes.
10. Assists in the development of library policies and regulations that affect areas of work responsibility.
11. Works well in a team to ensure smooth overall library operation.
12. Keeps informed of developments within the library, community, and library profession that may affect the library services to the public.
13. Provides leadership within the library through advocacy and collaboration, working closely with the Youth Services Coordinator.
14. Participates in the library’s planning process to represent and support bookmobile and outreach services. Sets goals and establishes priorities.
15. Fulfills all duties at the library circulation desk as scheduled, including opening and closing the library.
16. Must be able to work rotating weekends and evenings.
17. Other duties as assigned.
Education: College degree or appropriate combination of experience and education.
Experience: Two years’ related experience OR any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Requirement: Valid North Dakota driver’s license; capable of driving
bookmobile; CDL not required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Visible aptitude for working with patrons of all ages: children, adults, students, teachers, and the elderly.
- Ability to prioritize job responsibilities, work independently, and direct all functions related to bookmobile and outreach services.
- Knowledge of the policies and regulations that govern the library.
- Exceptional organizational skills.
- Ability to make quick but sound decisions.
- Familiarity with e-readers, mobile devices, and library databases; Interested in books and literature.
- Ability to work with other professionals and staff to secure the full use of the library by the public.
General and Physical Abilities: Must be available to work some evenings and weekends. Must possess the physical mobility required for bending, lifting, reading, and hearing.
