What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Worker II - Lab Technician position at City of Wichita?
Workdays and Hours - Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm. This is a limited full-time position.

Perform routine field sample collection. Performs chemical examinations of water samples. Performs basic calibration and maintenance of lab equipment. Enters data in operational logs and records, both manually and electronically. Performs basic record keeping and mathematical calculations. Uses small hand tools, calculators, and laboratory equipment. Cleans laboratory glassware, equipment and facilities. Completion of work assignments require the operation of a vehicle with valid Kansas

Knowledge of biology, or chemistry. Working knowledge of laboratory methods and procedures. Ability to learn, within a reasonable period of time, techniques and procedures for performing standard laboratory examinations. Ability to perform detailed, repetitive tasks. Knowledge of the standard computer keyboard configuration and ability to access, interpret and record information using a video display terminal and electronic keyboard. Normal color perception. Ability to work in an environment that may result in breathing or having tactile contact with unusual micro-organisms without extraordinary risk to one's own personal health. Ability to traverse uneven, sometimes slippery terrain, to take water samples. Ability to develop and maintain eAective working relationships with associates and representatives of other organizations. Ability to communicate clearly and eAectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license. An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
Completion of sixty (60) semester credit hours from an accredited college or university that includes at least six (6) semester credit hours in Chemistry, Microbiology, or Bacteriology, OR One (1) year of experience performing laboratory analyses, collecting samples, maintaining laboratory records, and calibrating laboratory equipment. A valid Driver’s license. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.
- Associate degree in Chemistry, Microbiology, Environmental Science, Biological Science, Water Quality Technology, or Laboratory Science.
- Two (2) years of laboratory experience performing chemical, biological, microbiological, or water quality testing.
Starting pay for current City employees will be determined by City of Wichita policy or applicable bargaining unit agreement.
Offers of employment are contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical, which includes drug screening, and upon satisfactory evaluation of the results of a criminal record check.
Salary : $15 - $21
