LABORER - STREETS

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of construction and/or maintenance work, which contributes to the overall operation of streets, alleys, storm water detention facilities, rights of way, utility easements, water/wastewater treatment facilities and parking areas. Other duties include assisting other departments and completing related duties as assigned.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
Driver’s License Required – Y Type - C

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Mission Essential Position will be required to report for all inclement weather.
Knowledge of concrete and asphalt work preferred.
Ability to operate a dump truck, motor roller, and farm type tractor with attachments preferred.

1 L Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice.
2 M Maintains the appearance and safety of the building and grounds by mowing the grass to its proper height, trimming and edging around the walks, flower beds, walls, buildings, or specified areas, removing leaves and debris, pruning shrubs and trees, watering the lawns, trees, shrubs, and flower beds; and planting grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
3 H Repairs and maintains streets by sweeping streets, removing litter and debris, washing areas, assisting with street cuts, repairing potholes, pouring asphalt, and compacting areas filled.
4 M Maintains the safe and efficient operation of equipment by sharpening blades, completing basic maintenance such as oiling parts, and repairing or replacing worn or damaged parts.
5 H Searches for and removes unwanted materials from landfill areas and disposes of items which could include tires, batteries or hazardous materials.
6 H Assists departments with special tasks or setting up and tearing down of equipment and materials at special events.

Unavoidable Hazards Works outdoors in very hot or very cold conditions or indoors in areas where cold or hot conditions are generated such as a cold storage room or boiler room; or works outdoors in wet or humid conditions or indoors in areas where wet or humid conditions are generated such as kitchen dish washing machine area or food processing area.
