BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to monitor the health of the community and investigate public health events. This occurs by conducting epidemiological surveillance, disease investigation and consultation, to include interviews of patients with illness. This position is responsible for the implementation and analysis of epidemiological investigations and studies; this activity will include data collection, analysis, and reporting for routine as well as outbreaks or unusual expression of disease. Routine investigations of etiologic diseases, such as HIV, sexually transmitted diseases may include interviews with patients/clients, contact with medical providers, and the collection and transportation of biological specimens.

Collaborates with internal and external agencies to develop and enhance partnerships to expand the surveillance and epidemiological capacity. Maintains an accurate database of key response partners. Works with area providers to ensure reporting of communicable disease, to include implementation of electronic health record reporting component.

This position reports to the Clinical Services Administrator. The position works with Public Health Preparedness Program staff for mitigation, planning, response and recovery activities to include infectious disease and bioterrorism. The position also works closely with staff within the nursing division to implement and evaluate disease surveillance, control, and intervention activities.

Other duties include attendance of various meetings, training and planning sessions. Travel within the city as well as to training conferences is expected. Must carry an assigned work cell phone and is on-call after hours, weekends and holidays.

Driver’s License Required – Y Type – C

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of a Master’s degree in Public Health or other related Epidemiological field or Bachelor’s degree with related experience.
Ability to work evenings, weekends and extended hours. Travel within the city as well as to training conferences is expected.
Must carry an assigned work cell phone and is on-call after hours, weekends and holidays.

# Code Essential Functions
1 L Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice
2 S Plans, develops, coordinates and analyzes epidemiologic investigations within Wichita County. Implements and evaluates disease surveillance, control, and intervention activities, to include investigations into the mitigation of clusters, outbreaks and other unusual expressions of disease.
3 S Conducts routine investigations of etiologic diseases, such as HIV, sexually transmitted diseases. Interviews patients/clients, and contacts medical providers. Collects and transports biological specimens.
4 S Collects epidemiologic data according to the general guidelines for routine or special surveillance of specific diseases. Analyzes data by using appropriate statistical measures. Prepares statistical reports and summaries.
5 L Investigate and report pertinent case investigation data, as well as interview information related to outbreak investigations, correctly and completely in the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS) in a timely manner.
6 S Coordinate with area hospitals and clinics to have laboratory specimens sent to the Laboratory Section at DSHS
7 L Prepares and disseminates written and oral presentations on the results of epidemiologic investigations and studies to medical and general public health audiences.
