POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION
The Bus Driver position is responsible for safely transporting people of all ages to various locations throughout the Denver metropolitan area and the surrounding mountains. The position is responsible for complying with all traffic regulations and exercising extreme caution in order to operate vehicles safely and courteously. The position is also responsible for general maintenance, such as checking vehicle fluids and safety equipment, to ensure that the bus is in safe operating condition on a daily basis. The position requires a Class C Commercial Driver’s License with a P, P-1, or P-2 endorsement and is subject to federally mandated drug and alcohol testing, as well as a Department of Transportation physical examination every two (2) years.
The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting pay range depends on the qualifications and experience of each candidate.

- Adhere to traffic and highway safety rules and regulations and follow defensive driving principles to avoid accidents
- Use sound judgment to make decisions involving the safety of employees and citizens

- Read maps and schedule efficient travel routes
- Follow emergency procedures to guarantee the safety of passengers
- Understand the basic workings of large passenger vehicles in order to ensure safe and effective vehicle operation
- Communicate with supervisor regarding bus malfunctions, necessary repairs, accidents, or delays in schedule
- Enforce safety rules while loading, unloading, and transporting passengers
- Work with all ages of passengers, from children to seniors
Job Specific Functions
Essential Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities, and Tasks
- Safely transports people of all ages in a 24-person passenger bus or a 15-person passenger van to various locations throughout the Denver metropolitan area and surrounding mountains
- Complies with traffic regulations in order to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner
- Exercises extreme caution to avoid accidents while operating passenger vehicles
- Assumes responsibility for the safety of passengers during loading, unloading, and transporting
- Reads and understands maps and schedules a safe and efficient route of travel
- Supervises participants during transport and during activities, depending on the nature of the activity and group
- Reports any accidents or delays
- Regulates heating equipment and ventilation of the bus for the comfort of passengers
- Remains calm in an emergency
- Performs CPR and First Aid if necessary
- Performs general maintenance and ensures that the bus is in safe and clean operating condition on a daily basis
- Checks oil, windshield wiper fluid, and gas levels; fills gas tank as needed
- Checks condition of tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, and other safety equipment
- Cleans inside and outside of the vehicle
- Reports any bus malfunctions or needed repairs
- Maintains a variety of records and reports, including but not limited to mileage, routing, maintenance, and time schedules
- Keeps all certifications and licenses current, including:
- Valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class C and P, P-1 or P-2 endorsement, and safe driving record
- First Aid and CPR
- Maintains regular and punctual attendance

- Certified completion and passing of the Department of Transportation medical examination every two (2) years
- Previous experience driving a bus

- Endure high exposure to repetitive motion/stress due to steering and sitting for long periods
- Frequently lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to ten (10) pounds to move material and supplies; occasionally lift, push, and/or pull up to 25 pounds with dollies and carts
