Essential Duties And Responsibilities
As an Equipment Operator, you'll play a key role in maintaining and improving Wausau's public infrastructure. Typical responsibilities include:
- Safely operating a variety of heavy construction equipment used in roadway, utility, and infrastructure maintenance projects.
- Performing grading, excavation, paving, drainage, snow and ice control, and other Public Works operations.
- Inspecting and performing routine servicing and minor maintenance on assigned equipment.
- Evaluating job site conditions and selecting appropriate equipment and work methods to complete work safely and efficiently.
- Supporting construction and maintenance projects through equipment operation and manual labor as needed.
- Responding to severe weather, emergencies, and other situations requiring Public Works assistance.
- Working collaboratively with an experienced team committed to safety, quality workmanship, and exceptional public service.

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) or more years of experience in roadway maintenance, construction, excavation, utility work, heavy equipment operation, or a related field.
- A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with N endorsement.
Experience operating heavy construction equipment such as:
- Motor graders
- Excavators/backhoes
- Front-end loaders
- Skid steers
- Dump trucks
- Similar heavy construction equipment
