This position oversees the planning, organization, and coordination of facility operations and services at the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center, including the management of events and activities. This role requires a self-motivated professional with a strong work ethic and the ability to manage diverse responsibilities effectively.

- Supervises daily operations of staff responsible for building maintenance, mechanical repairs, janitorial duties, and upkeep of grounds and equipment.
- Oversees monitoring and inspection of the building and premises for fire, security, and safety concerns, ensuring proper direction of janitorial, security, and other essential services as needed.
- Ensures staff is monitoring and assessing arena compressors and ice conditions for optimal performance.
- Reviews and enforces safety and security procedures, ensuring compliance with Wasilla municipal codes and state regulations.
- Assists with scheduling facility usage and manages staff work schedules to ensure smooth operations.
- Communicates upcoming events to Wasilla PD to ensure they are aware of the facility usage and the impact it will have on the community.
- Develops and updates facility procedures, including emergency protocols, equipment usage, and staff training, to maintain efficient and safe facility operations.
- Represents the Director of Recreational Services at meetings in their absence.
- Attends the Monthly Mayor's meetings with other Managers and Supervisors.
- Participates in the City of Wasilla Safety Committee and conducts safety orientation sessions for new employees.
- Prepares and maintains incident reports, facility inspections, filings, and related records.
- Conducts regular staff meetings to review progress, address concerns, and improve team coordination.
- Coordinates, facilitates, and oversees planned events, ensuring they are executed according to agreed-upon plans while providing exceptional customer service and communication with event organizers.
- Develops user permits and ensures proper documentation is received and filed in compliance with city and state guidelines.
- Assists with preparing, reviewing, and managing the annual budget, including justifying building expenditures, analyzing operating expenses, and addressing other financial matters essential to facility operations.
- Directs the requisition, receipt, and distribution of supplies, tools, and equipment for building and grounds maintenance; approves purchases and manages vendor contracts for equipment and services.
- Selects, supervises, and evaluates staff, assigning tasks, providing instructions, maintaining discipline, and addressing personnel issues as needed. Ensures staff is trained.
- Maintains positive relationships with employees, contractors, event organizers, vendors, and the general public.
- Prepares reports, event and facility contracts, fee waivers, purchase orders, and other required documentation.
- Assists in developing and implementing short- and long-term plans that align with the city’s goals and the facility’s objectives.
- Supports the marketing and promotion of activities and events at the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center.
- Ensures the facility remains clean, functional, and viable for community rental and usage.
- Performs additional duties, special projects, and assignments as directed.
Knowledge of:

Minimum Experience: Five (5) years of experience in event production/management involving responsibility for building and equipment maintenance, safety, purchase of supplies and associated record-keeping with two (2) years of direct supervisory experience. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Other Requirements:
- Experience with budget preparation, financial management, procurement, and supply accountability is desirable.
- Experience in full management event promotions in coordinating events and working with promoters, nonprofit organizations, and other groups with professionalism and courtesy.
- Experience in sales, marketing, and advertising preferred.
- Experience in supervising or operating in an Ice Rink or Multi-use facility environment.
- Must obtain a valid State of Alaska Driver's License by time of hire.
- First Aid, CPR, AED Certified.
