COMMUNITY COMPLIANCE OFFICER

City of Warsaw Police Department | Full-Time

Make a Difference in the Community You Serve

Are you someone who enjoys working with people, solving problems, and spending your workday out in the community rather than behind a desk?

The City of Warsaw Police Department is seeking a dependable, motivated, and community-minded individual to join our team as a Community Compliance Officer.

This is a unique opportunity to have a direct impact on the safety, appearance, and quality of life of our community. From helping residents understand local ordinances and addressing neighborhood concerns to assisting with animal-related calls and parking issues, you’ll play an important role in keeping Warsaw a great place to live, work, and visit.

What You’ll Do

No two days will look exactly the same. As our Community Compliance Officer, you will:

  • Work directly with residents, property owners, and businesses to resolve community concerns.
  • Inspect residential, commercial, and industrial properties for compliance with City codes and zoning requirements.
  • Investigate complaints involving property maintenance, illegal dumping, and unpermitted construction.
  • Educate property owners and businesses about requirements and help them achieve compliance whenever possible.
  • Issue notices and citations when necessary and follow up to ensure concerns are corrected.
  • Respond to calls involving stray, injured, dangerous, or abandoned animals.
  • Safely and humanely capture and transport animals.
  • Investigate animal cruelty, neglect, and abuse complaints.
  • Patrol designated areas and address parking violations and abandoned or illegally parked vehicles.
  • Assist with traffic control during community events and emergencies.
  • Prepare reports, document investigations, and maintain accurate enforcement records.

Who We’re Looking For

The right person for this position is approachable but confident, fair but firm, and able to remain professional when situations become challenging.

You may be a great fit if you:

  • Enjoy working independently and being out in the community.
  • Communicate well with people from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Are comfortable having difficult conversations while remaining respectful and professional.
  • Have good judgment and know when education can solve a problem and when enforcement is necessary.
  • Can remain calm during confrontational or stressful situations.
  • Are organized and comfortable preparing reports and documentation.
  • Want a career where you can see the results of your work in the community around you.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Indiana driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with the public.
  • Ability to perform fieldwork in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including walking, standing for extended periods, handling equipment, and lifting or handling animals.

Experience in code enforcement, animal control, parking enforcement, public safety, property management, zoning, customer service, or a related field is preferred.

Coursework in public administration, law enforcement, animal science, or a related field is also preferred.

Certifications in Code Enforcement, Animal Control, or Parking Enforcement are a plus and may be required within a specified period after hire.

More Than Enforcement — It’s Community Service

Successful compliance work isn't simply about writing citations. It's about solving problems, educating residents, building relationships, and finding reasonable solutions that improve our community.

You’ll have the opportunity to interact with people throughout Warsaw, respond to real community concerns, and see firsthand how your work contributes to safer neighborhoods and a better quality of life.

If you are looking for meaningful work, enjoy variety, and want an opportunity to serve your community as part of the Warsaw Police Department, we encourage you to apply.
