THE DIVISION
The City of Visalia's Fleet Maintenance Division is part of the Public Works Department. The Fleet Maintenance Division provides the services and support needed to keep City-owned vehicles and equipment operating safely and efficiently. The division operates a full-service repair facility that performs preventive maintenance and repairs on a diverse fleet of automobiles, trucks, heavy equipment, and specialized vehicles. In addition, the Fleet Maintenance Division maintains a fully stocked parts room and oversees the City's fueling contract and fueling sites.
THE POSITION
The Parts Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Fleet Maintenance Parts room. This position independently receives inventories, orders, stocks, and issues parts, materials, tools, and supplies necessary to support the maintenance and repair of the City's fleet. The incumbent works closely with technicians, vendors, and manufacturers to ensure parts availability, maintain accurate inventory records, and procure quality parts at competitive prices. This position plays a critical role in minimizing equipment downtime by maintaining an efficient, organized, and cost-effective inventory system.

They possess strong communication skills and can effectively follow and provide both written and verbal instructions. With considerable knowledge of automotive and heavy equipment parts, inventory control practices, purchasing procedures, and computerized inventory management systems, they are skilled at researching OEM and aftermarket parts, maintaining accurate inventory records, and developing and building positive working relationships with vendors and internal customers. The successful candidate demonstrates sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining a high level of accuracy. Committed to providing excellent service to Fleet Maintenance staff, they ensure timely availability of parts and materials needed to keep City vehicles and equipment operational. They value teamwork, maintain safe and organized work environment, adhere to established workplace safety practices, and consistently follow all City of Visalia policies and procedures.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAny combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skill and ability is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skill and abilities would be:
At least one year experience in stock or storeroom maintenance, bookkeeping, or clerical work, preferably dealing with automotive parts and supplies.
