The Telecommunications Installation Technician will work within the Information Technology’s Unified Communications Division and is responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining telecom systems including voice, data, and cloud-based communication services. This role involves hands-on installation of network and telecommunication equipment, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and supporting of cloud-based platforms to ensure reliable, secure, and high-quality service delivery. This role will assist with all IT Room facilities, manage small projects, and work with subcontractors as required.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
Install, configure, and test telecommunication systems, including VoIP, SIP trunks, audiovisual, and data circuits.
Maintain and forecast data and voice cabling needs for the City.
Perform cable terminations (fiber, Cat6, coax) and ensure compliance with industry standards.
Coordinate contractual maintenance and service issues with multiple vendors.
Locate cable in response to Miss Utilities notices and clear tickets.
Troubleshoot and resolve connectivity issues related to voice, data, and cloud-based communication systems.
Support integration and maintenance of Audio Visual and cloud-hosted communication platforms (e.g., Webex, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or other UCaaS solutions).
Perform high-level diagnostics on network equipment to identify and resolve network or performance issues.
Utilize network monitoring and ticketing tools to track system performance and service requests.
Maintain accurate documentation of installations, configurations, and service activities.
Ensure all installations comply with safety regulations, building codes, and company standards.
Provide end-user support and technical training when needed.
Collaborate with engineers and vendors to support upgrades, migrations, and new deployments.
Manage and maintain IT Room’s to include Preventative Maintenance and UPS monitoring and maintenance.
This position offers a remote/hybrid work schedule arrangement within the Virginia and North Carolina surrounding areas.
