The Virginia Beach Fire Department is hiring a Public Safety Systems Analyst to join our Research, Analysis, and Planning Bureau. This is a unique opportunity to directly impact public safety operations and play a key role in driving data innovation, maintaining public safety databases, and leading accreditation and performance reporting efforts across the department.
The Public Safety Systems Analyst will support the integration of geospatial data into enterprise systems such as ESRI Insights and Power BI, develop GIS-based applications and web services, and produce high-quality maps, reports, and spatial analyses that inform critical decision-making.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, develop, and maintain GIS applications, dashboards, and spatial tools using ArcGIS and SQL-based platforms
- Develop SQL scripts to query data across multiple databases and sources
- Produce high-quality operational and analytical reports with actionable recommendations on program needs and resource allocation
- Maintain VBFD performance measurement databases; analyze industry trends; design surveys and reports; lead cross-departmental collaboration
- Ensure alignment with national and state reporting standards such as NFIRS and NERIS
- Participate in technology initiatives, including the department-wide rollout of the First Due RMS cloud-based system
- Develop and deliver training on complex systems (e.g., RMS); document workflows and evaluate staff training needs
- Create and maintain reports, conduct trend analysis, and provide recommendations to leadership for informed decision-making
- Perform other duties as assigned
The Ideal Candidate will have
- a bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or a related field
