Library Program Specialist I- Youth track duties include but are not limited to:
Planning, marketing, presenting, and evaluating specialized and complex programs and classes that reflect the library’s strategic initiatives and increase public awareness of library services and resources.
Collaborating with colleagues to develop and present programs, share resources, and communicate trends in youth and technology services.
Providing information and readers’ advisory services to library customers through reference interviews, research, and bibliographic instruction which requires a broad knowledge of print, non-print and electronic resources.
Working with community partners to ensure programming, resources, and materials to support lifelong learning.
Promoting the library’s collection and services through programs, trainings, and outreach.
Knowledge of social, cognitive, emotional, and educational stages of youth
Researching, designing, and providing training and instruction to staff and volunteers to orient them to their tasks and responsibilities.
Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
Aligning all services with library policies and procedures and consistently meets the needs of the community.
Collecting and inputting data that will measure the impact of services.
Maintains an ongoing knowledge of reading trends
Checking materials in and out and registering customers to maintain an accurate database.
Performing cash handling duties.
Instructing and assisting customers in the use of the library catalog, electronic resources, library materials, and equipment. Interprets, explains, and applies library policies and procedures to customers and staff.
May be required to oversee the library branch and staff in the absence of supervisory personnel.
