Job Description: PART TIME LIBRARY ASSISTANT & GAME-MASTER

The Villa Rica Public Library seeks someone passionate about literacy, community, and customer service to join our team. This position has a dual focus: customer service at the front desk and in the stacks (70%) and developing programs and initiatives that gamify the library (30%). On the customer service side, the successful candidate will check out books, help patrons with computer questions, offer material recommendations & assistance, and problem-solve with patrons as their needs arise. On the programming side, we are looking for someone passionate about how games bring communities together, whether it is tabletop gaming, video games, scavenger hunts, escape rooms, or other fun and exciting programs you can imagine.

• Job Duties
  • Help patrons check out materials and complete tasks at the circulation desk
  • Provide accurate, friendly, and efficient customer service
  • Create programs and assist with programs
  • Create & maintain displays
  • Answer computer & technology questions
  • Help patrons find materials, programs, and services
  • Shelve, process, and retrieved materials
  • Contribute to a positive work environment
  • Follow PINES, City of Villa Rica, and West Georgia Regional Library System policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

• Up to 15 hours per week. The position includes evening and Saturday hours

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Position is primarily evening hours and Saturdays from 9am-2pm
• Good typing/filing skills and basic computer skills
• Knowledge of games and game cultures
• Employment is contingent upon passing a background check.

• Ability to perform a variety of clerical tasks
• Enjoy working with diverse populations, especially children
• Ability to work independently on assigned projects
• Ability to think creatively to develop and run programs
• A deep passion for and growing knowledge of literature and literacy
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Creative/crafting skills a plus
• Spanish language skills a preferred

Working Conditions:

• Physical Demands:
• Lifting of 20 lbs. required.
• The position requires the use of standard office equipment.
• The position involves intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching.
• Work is performed during regular library hours, which includes weekends and evenings.

Salary : $15 - $20
