PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR
Full-Time Salaried Position $50,000 Per Year Overtime Exempt
The City of Vernon is accepting applications for the position of Public Works Director. We are seeking a dependable, responsible individual who works well with the public, employees, contractors, and City officials.

Qualifications
· Dependable, organized, and able to work independently with strong attention to detail.
· Able to communicate and work well with the public.
· Able to pass a background check.
· Possess a Florida Water Distribution License or have the ability to obtain the required license within one year of employment.
· Knowledge of, or ability to learn, municipal water and sewer systems.
· Available for on-call duties, including nights and weekends as needed.
· Facility and grounds maintenance experience.
· Ability to supervise employees, coordinate work assignments, and prepare schedules.
Job Duties
· Oversee day-to-day Public Works operations and supervise employees.
· Maintain, repair, and replace water and sewer lines and related system components.
· Read, repair, and replace water meters.
· Take required water samples and perform 811 utility locates.
· Maintain accurate daily operational logs, records, and log books.
· Complete required paperwork and reports for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and other state entities.
· Coordinate and work with contractors on various City projects and operations.
· Mow and maintain City property and perform facility maintenance and repairs.
· Respond to water, sewer, and other Public Works emergencies, including after-hours and weekend calls.
· Perform other duties as needed or requested by the City.
This is a hands-on working director position. The Public Works Director is an essential position and must be willing and able to respond to after-hours and weekend emergencies when necessary.
