What are the responsibilities and job description for the Industrial Pretreatment Technician position at City of Tyler?
- Must have a working knowledge of the City's Industrial Pretreatment Program, Liquid Waste Program, and FOG Program.
- Supervise Industrial Pretreatment Inspector.
- Conducts permitted industry inspections and sampling, grease trap inspections, report writing and monitoring at all City of Tyler food establishments.
- Must track compliance with Industrial Pretreatment, FOG ordinance and Liquid Waste Ordinance.
- Prepare and maintain Industrial Wastewater Discharge Permits and Liquid Waste Hauler Permits.
- Must have a working knowledge of, and enforce City, Federal and State Industrial Pretreatment regulations.
- Must have a working knowledge of, and enforce the City's FOG ordinance and Liquid Waste ordinance.
- Must maintain a working relationship with permitted industries, food service establishments and liquid waste haulers.
- Assist with Industrial Pretreatment enforcement proceedings.
- Must maintain Industrial Pretreatment equipment and inventory.
- Must work with two wastewater plants to insure compliance.
- Must possess good organizational skills to develop, implement and maintain programs mandated by State and Federal agencies.
- Must maintain public education concerning the City's Fats, Oil and Grease Program.
- Work with Treatment Plant staff to insure liquid waste hauler trucks are inspected and operating within the requirements of the City's Liquid Waste Ordinance.
- Assist with Federal and State monitoring requirements for the wastewater treatment processes.
- Assists local industries by performing waste minimization/pollution prevention inspections.
- Conducts investigations in response to water quality complaints.
- Assist Wastewater Lab Analyst as needed.
- Assist Wastewater Treatment Plants as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Possess good math and analytical skills, and be able to use reason to solve problems.
- Have a good basic knowledge of chemistry and laboratory skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Communicate well, both orally and in writing.
- Conduct yourself in a highly professional, courteous manner when communicating with customers, employees, supervisors, department leaders, regulatory agencies, and the public.
- Able to lift and maneuver weights up to 50 pounds, walk and stand up to 5 hours daily,
- Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting,
fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions - Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word
- Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels;
- Visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, and peripheral vision.

The City of Tyler will accept two years of relevant experience in place of each year of college required in the job description. Four years of relevant experience will be considered in place of an Associate's Degree, and eight years of relevant experience will be considered in place of a Bachelor's Degree. Any experience required in the Minimum qualifications is in addition to years of experience substituted for a degree.
