Copy of veteran discharge paper (DD214), showing discharge status, if applicable
Copy of proof of U.S. citizenship or employment eligibility (Social Security card, U.S. Passport, or other official documentation as per Form I-9 guidelines);
Proof of age (birth certificate or driver’s license)
*Only honorably discharged veterans from active-duty service of 180 days or more in one of the armed services (reserves and training are not eligible) who have uploaded a DD214 which states “Honorable Discharge” by the application deadline, will have 5 additional points added to their score if they pass the written examination.*
Persons who submit a completed application, upload ALL required documentation, and meet minimum qualifications by the application deadline are eligible to sit for the exam.

Essential Functions
Applicants must be able to perform all of the following essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Perform firefighting duties and work under hazardous conditions that involve working at heights, exposure to fire, smoke, heat, and confined spaces.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
Learn and apply firefighting principles and methods.
Lift, move, carry, and/or drag tools, equipment, charged hoses, persons, ladders, and other objects.
Climb ladders, stairs, and other devices and structures at various heights and under dangerous conditions.
Pry open or ventilate doors, walls, roofs, and other objects.
Chop and cut openings in various structures and objects using axes and other tools.
Crawl in dangerous and confined spaces.
Administer first aid techniques including CPR.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following qualifications at the time of application.
Be a United States citizen or meet an employment authorization requirement as mandated by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
Be 18 to 35 years of age and must not have attained his/her 36th birthday on the date of the written exam.
Be a high school graduate or have a G.E.D.
Be in good health and able to pass a medical examination.
Be in good physical condition and be able to perform all the essential functions of the position.
Possess a valid driver’s license on date of appointment.
Be able to intelligently read, write, and fluently speak the English language.
City Of Tyler Policy
It is the policy of the City to recruit, employ and to provide compensation, promotion, and other conditions of employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability, genetic information or status as a Vietnam era or special disabled veteran, recently separated veteran, and other protected veteran. The City of Tyler will accept two years of relevant experience in place of each year of college required in the job description. Four years of relevant experience will be considered in place of an Associate's Degree, and eight years of relevant experience will be considered in place of a Bachelor's Degree. Any experience required in the Minimum qualifications is in addition to years of experience substituted for a degree.
The City of Tyler supports a policy of a drug and alcohol free workplace. All candidates are subject to pre-employment testing, which may include, but is not limited to, Drug and Alcohol Screenings, Work Fitness Evaluation, Criminal Background Check, and Consumer Report/Credit Check.
No person under eighteen (18) years of age will be employed in any regular full-time position.
Persons under eighteen (18) years of age may be employed in temporary or regular part-time positions, if they furnish the City with a minor's release (Form 2-2) and are approved by the City Manager.
No person under eighteen (18) years of age will be employed in any position requiring the operation of a City motorized vehicle.
