The City of Surprise Parks & Recreation Department is thrilled to invite a passionate and experienced Aquatics professional to join our team at the Oasis Swim Center, which proudly opened its doors in May 2025. This state-of-the-art aquatic facility features a 50-meter competition pool, 6-lane warm-up pool, and a beach-entry recreation pool, serving as a premier destination for both recreational and competitive aquatic programs in the region.
We are seeking a driven and dynamic Aquatics Specialist to lead and expand our Competitive Programming, with a focus on serving as the Head Coach of our USA Club Swim Team, STORM. This role will also involve assisting in leading the recreational swim & dive program, as well as focusing on introducing new and exciting elements to competitive aquatics programming.
This role requires flexible availability, including nights, weekends, and occasional travel. Previous coaching and/or competitive swimming experience is required. The successful candidate must obtain USA Swimming Coach Certification within 30 days of hire and Lifeguard, CPR, & First Aid (Star Guard Elite) within 90 days of hire.

**STARTING PAY RANGE $21.96 - $24.16 Hourly**
**This includes 40-hour work weeks with opportunities for overtime with swim meets, clinics, events, and administrative work as needed**
SUMMARY
Incumbents assist with the planning, implementation and coordination of a wide variety of recreation activities and programs and community special events. Responsibilities include supervising facilities or specific programs or activities, customer service, problem-solving, routine day-to-day operations and reports, scheduling entertainment, setting up events/programs, inventory, and rule adjudication. Incumbents may be assigned as cashier to receive checks and cash, process payments, and procure supplies and services. Incumbents oversee part-time staff and volunteers.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED, and two years of related recreation experience. Additional education cannot be substituted for the required experience.
CERTIFICATIONS
Must have at the time of hire and be able to maintain a valid Arizona Driver License. Positions that work in licensed programs require certification in Community Infant, Child, Adult CPR, and First Aid within six months of hire.
