NATURE OF WORK
This is a technical and creative position responsible for creating high-quality video productions and still photography. Under the direction of the Marketing and Communications Director or designee, an employee in this classification conceptualizes, storyboards, scripts, lights, films, edits, and adds graphics and sound to videos and other multimedia communications to strengthen and advance the City of Sunrise brand and reputation through video and photographic stories across digital and social media platforms, including the City’s website and for broadcast, as needed. The individual in this position will also serve as City photographer at City Commission meetings, City events, and activities, as required. The position will require attendance at select weekend or after-hours special events to capture and create content.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Administers complete video production projects independently. This includes pre-production (concept development, storyboarding, campaigns, and script writing), filming, and editing to advance the City of Sunrise’s brand.
- Publishes content to a variety of distribution channels, such as YouTube, social media networks, and a website content management system, utilizing ADA-compliant formatting.
- Upholds a high standard by making all technical (audio, color, lighting) and creative (dialog, action, angle, etc.) adjustments necessary to achieve superior results.
- Demonstrates an understanding of innovative post-production techniques such as animation, motion graphics, AI-powered tools, custom video effect creation and editing, and other recent visual arts trends.
- Maintains any sets, studio, and storage space in an organized manner.
- Attends City events that require videography, livestreaming, photography, or other visual content.
- Collaborates with the Marketing and Communications Team in all aspects of digital marketing campaigns.
- Participates in special events logistics, coordination, and promotion.
- Ensures all content aligns with the department’s project goals and stylistic guidelines.
- Explores additional multimedia opportunities and suggest changes.
- Stays current on emerging and new digital trends, the latest in video production, best practices in video production, and the latest social media platforms.
- Manages, troubleshoots, and maintains all hardware and software related to videography and makes recommendations for program improvements.
- Develops creative concepts that uphold the City’s brand and utilize compelling storytelling.
- Coordinates project participants, providing exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
- Serves as liaison to commercial production companies and contracted photographers for select projects.
- Creates and oversees the City’s library of video assets and related digital distribution platforms.
Requirements
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in video production, marketing, photography, or similar. Or an acceptable combination of education, experience, and training.
EXPERIENCE
- Considerable professional work experience performing video production and editing.
- Experience with promotional/event/magazine photography required.
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Must obtain a valid Florida driver's license prior to hire.
- Required to hold a current FAA Part 107 Drone Pilot License or willing to take and pass an FAA exam.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work Environment:
- Some work is performed in a standard office environment, and some work is performed at a variety of indoor and outdoor events.
- Scheduled events on the division calendar will frequently occur outside of typical office hours; time management and flexibility will be necessary to cover projects on evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Tasks are occasionally performed with moderate exposure to adverse environmental conditions, including inclement weather, severe temperatures and exposure to water.
- The position may require occasional travel to various locations in the Tri-County area.
- Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through personal contact, the use of the telephone and/or other City-issued technology devices.
- Must have a finely calibrated ability to detect differences in sight and sound in order to thoroughly compose, analyze, and edit works of video.
- Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work outdoors, at remote indoor locations, and in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach and twist under and around furniture and equipment; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight up to 50 lbs.; to operate equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine motor coordination, including use of a computer and camera; and to verbally communicate to exchange information. Occasional climbing on ladder or stool to reach or mount equipment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing is essential.
- Skilled at short-form, long-form, and streaming content creation, as well as distribution strategies and tactics.
- Proficiency in motion graphics and visual effects, multi-media, and presentation software such as Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro and/or Final Cut Pro X, Photoshop, Audition, and more.
- Ability to operate a video camera and video editing software to produce compelling video content for social media.
- Ability to operate a digital camera to capture still photos.
- Ability to manage time and prioritize projects.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, and the public.
- Knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and adjust to last-minute programming changes.
