NATURE OF WORK
This classification involves performing a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks related to the upkeep, repair, and appearance of City buildings, parks, and recreational facilities. Work includes operating power tools and maintenance equipment such as pressure washers, blowers, edgers, and related machinery; assisting skilled trades personnel in performing minor mechanical and electrical repairs; and performing general custodial, housekeeping, and groundskeeping duties.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Pressure washes sidewalks, structures and buildings.
- Operates maintenance equipment and power tools such as pressure washers, edgers, blowers and other machines and equipment; cleans equipment as needed.
- Performs unskilled and semi-skilled tasks related to maintenance and repair of buildings, parks, facilities, and other related installations.
- Serves as a trade’s helper by performing semi-skilled electrical and mechanical work tasks.
- Operates and maintains an assigned vehicle including fuel, oil and notification of repairs as needed.
- Performs minor paintings assignments.
- Performs general custodial and laboring tasks including housekeeping, grounds-keeping, vehicle operation, and routine vehicle maintenance; removes graffiti from public places around the City.
- Loads and unloads heavy boxes, bulky supplies, furniture, and materials to and from trucks, dollies, etc.; opens crates and boxes using crowbar; cuts bands using shears; stacks boxes and cartons as directed; and moves and arranges furniture.
- Uses such tools as hammers, chisels, handsaws, planes, screwdrivers, glue guns, and power saws/sanders.
- Observes established safety practices, procedures, and regulations.
- Cleans tools and work area upon completion of project.
- Performs related work as required.
