Water Technician/Equipment Operator
The City of Statham is accepting applications for a full-time Water Technician/Equipment Operator.
Job Summary:
The Water Tech/Equipment Operator is responsible for ensuring safe and clean water by operating, maintaining, and monitoring water treatment and distribution systems, as well as collecting and testing water samples under the supervision of the licensed Water Operator and/or Public Works Director. Additionally, this position is responsible for operating various types of equipment such as an excavator, backhoe, and skid steer to support Public Works operations, including utility work, drainage, road maintenance, and right-of-way maintenance.
Essential Duties:
The following duties are normal for this job; other duties may be required as assigned with Supervision.
- Basic repair and maintenance of the water distribution system to include pumps, valves, fire hydrants, and chemical dosing systems.
- Monitor water quality parameters, adjust chemical dosages, and make corrective adjustments to processes to maintain optimal water quality.
- Installs, repairs, and monitors consumer water meters.
- Turn water services on and off as required, and post non-payment notices.
- Locate water meters, mains, and service lines.
- Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on equipment and reports defects or needed repairs to supervisor.
- Conduct daily preventive maintenance inspections of water wells, water storage facilities, and wastewater lift and pump stations to ensure proper operation.
- Assist in ensuring that Government Standards and regulations are met and remain in compliance.
- Operate Heavy Equipment
- Perform routine maintenance, inspections on assigned equipment.
- Operate equipment safely and efficiently in close proximity to utilities.
- Maintain equipment, tools, and keep work areas clean and orderly.
- Some weekends and after-hours on-call may be required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Strong detail oriented.
- Must have a valid GA driver’s license.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and work independently, if required.
- Safety procedures and practices are required as well as wearing safety equipment.
- Some knowledge of carpentry, mechanical, and electrical.
- Ability to operate equipment, i.e., backhoe, tractor, mowing equipment, and various hand tools.
- Capable of lifting upwards of 50 pounds
- The Knowledge and Ability to obtain State of GA issued Water Treatment Operator License or Water Distribution Operator License.
Pay will be reviewed for years of experience in the field of water & sewer, equipment operation, education, certifications, and or licenses.
