What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Inspector position at City of Statesboro?
The Building Inspector inspects all phases of residential, commercial, and industrial construction work for compliance with applicable codes and ordinances.
Work Schedule Monday - Friday 8:00 am until 5:00 pm
- Inspects all phases of residential, commercial and industrial construction;
- Performs electrical, mechanical, plumbing, gas, footing, slab, setback, limited fire/life safety, Americans with Disabilities (ADA), and structural inspections for compliance with applicable building codes and zoning regulations;
- Reviews construction plans, including schematic building and site drawings to ensure compliance with building, electrical, plumbing, gas, mechanical, limited fire, parking, emergency egress, ADA, and other applicable codes and ordinances;
- Maintains files of inspections, re-inspections, notes, and required reports
- High School Diploma;
- Two (2) years of experience in a related field;
- Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
- Valid State of Georgia Driver’s License;
- Must be able to obtain the four (4) sections of I.C.C. Building Inspector Certification Modules (Building, Plumbing, Mechanical and Electrical Inspections) within a 24-month period from the initial date of hire.

- Background Investigation
- Pre-Employment Urinalysis
- Pre-Employment Physical
