GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

Work involves providing technical expertise in the planning, design, development, construction, inspection, and implementation of a variety of public improvement and landscape projects. The position applies technical knowledge, design expertise, and project management skills to create sustainable, functional, and visually appealing public spaces.

 Responsibilities include managing and overseeing the design, development, renovation, and maintenance of parks, recreation facilities, streetscapes, and other public landscapes while promoting public safety, environmental stewardship, and the overall quality of the community.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

·         Design and oversee landscape and public improvement projects, including parks, streetscapes, greenways, and municipal facilities.

·         Develop master plans, site plans, landscape designs, and construction documents using CAD and other design software.

·         Analyze site conditions and conduct field investigations to develop effective and sustainable design solutions.

·         Coordinate projects with City departments, consultants, contractors, utility providers, and regulatory agencies.

·         Review development and consultant-prepared plans for compliance with City standards and landscape requirements.

·         Prepare project budgets, cost estimates, bid documents, technical specifications, and construction contracts.

·         Manage projects through construction, including inspections, contract administration, and project closeout.

·         Present projects to City boards, commissions, and the public, and respond to technical questions from staff, elected officials, developers, and residents.

·         Maintain project documentation, reports, and related records.

·         Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

·         Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of landscape architecture and their application to public improvement, parks, recreation, and municipal facility projects.

·         Knowledge of planning, design, construction, contract administration, and project management practices for public infrastructure and capital improvement projects.

·         Knowledge of site planning, grading, drainage, stormwater management, and sustainable landscape design principles.

·         Knowledge of municipal contracting, procurement, and capital budgeting processes.

·         Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and effectively resolve design and construction-related issues.

·         Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret technical data and prepare clear reports, plans, and recommendations.

·         Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering plans, specifications, blueprints, maps, surveys, and construction drawings.

·         Ability to inspect construction projects and ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, and applicable standards.

·         Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize assignments, and meet established deadlines.

·         Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City officials, employees, contractors, consultants, developers, and the public.

·         Ability to communicate technical information effectively, both orally and in writing, including presentations before boards, commissions, and community groups.

·         Proficiency in computer applications, including computer-aided design (CAD) software and other industry-related programs.

·         Ability to maintain accurate records, prepare cost estimates, and manage project documentation.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Minimum Qualifications:

·         Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Architecture or a related field from a college or university accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

·         A Minimum of four (4) years of landscape architecture experience is required. Experience with playground design is preferred.

·         Proficiency in AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and Adobe Creative Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture or a related field from a college or university accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

·         Professional licensure in the State of Mississippi (or ability to obtain via reciprocity).

·         5 years of experience in urban design, municipal planning, or a related field.

 

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

?        Must possess a valid Driver’s License and acceptable MVR.
