GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
The purpose of this classification is to perform work functions associated with parking regulations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Patrols assigned areas and marks tires/issues citations for parking violations; tows illegally parked or abandoned vehicles; attends court.
- Patrols assigned area; reports damaged signs, curb paint and parking space markings.
- Reports other damaged street signs, damaged traffic lights, and emergencies in the field.
- Stays abreast of new parking ordinances; inform citizens of rules and regulations of parking and city ordinances.
- Performs traffic and parking surveys.
- Performs preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment used performance of duties, specifically: maintaining fluid levels, checking tires, and cleaning vehicles.
- Responds to requests for information or assistance from employees, officials, and the public.
- Responds to calls from the public concerning problems, complaints, or emergency situations.
- Teaches school safety program.
- Attends meetings and workshops.
- Receives, reviews, and/or prepares documentation, records, and reports; forwards to appropriate personnel or maintains files.
- Assists with parking control office functions/operations.
- Assists with blocking streets and parking lots during special events.
- Assists with transportation to/from special events.
- Recommends policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of quality services by the Tuscaloosa Department of Transportation.
- Incorporates continuous quality improvement principles in day to day activities.
- Must meet regular attendance requirements.
- Must be able to maintain good interpersonal relationships with staff, co-workers, managers and citizens.
- Must accomplish the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, in a timely manner.

- Record and deliver information, to explain procedures, and to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Add and subtract, multiply and divide, calculate decimals/percentages, and determine time.
- Visually inspect items for proper length, width, and shape using job related equipment which may include street measuring wheels and standard measuring devices.
- Coordinate hands and eyes in using parking control and automated office equipment and to operate a motor vehicle.
- Handle a variety of items, parking control and automated office equipment, control knobs, switches, etc.
- Deal with and relate to people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
- Adapt to and perform under moderate stress when confronted with an emergency.
- Talk, express, or exchange ideas by means of spoken words and/or hear and perceive nature of sounds by ear.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High school diploma or GED required; no previous experience required.
PREFERRED:
LICENSE, CERTIFICATIONS, & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess and maintain a valid Mississippi driver’s license
WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The job is performed primarily outdoors and may expose the employee to inclement weather conditions, hazards of construction sites, animals and insects. Work is required in all types of weather. Must be able to operate a variety of parking control and automated office equipment including a service truck, computer, adding machine, fax machine, copiers, telephone, two-way radio, street measuring wheel, etc.
Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for light work. Use one hand for twisting motion or turning motion while coordinating other hand with different activities. Must have average levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
May require the ability to discern color.
