Job Summary The City of St. Peters is seeking a skilled and dependable Streets Maintenance Technician to perform advanced street maintenance, repair, and construction work throughout the City's public rights-of-way. This position is responsible for a variety of hands-on duties including asphalt paving, concrete repair, snow removal, equipment operation, and infrastructure maintenance. The ideal candidate will have strong experience operating heavy equipment, working safely in demanding outdoor environments, and contributing effectively as part of a team.
Normal Shift: Monday-Friday; 7:00am-3:30pm
Key Responsibilities
- Perform skilled labor related to the construction, repair, and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, and public rights-of-way
- Complete asphalt paving, crack sealing, concrete finishing, and landscape restoration activities
- Operate heavy equipment, power tools, and motorized equipment with advanced skill
- Perform routine servicing and minor maintenance on equipment and vehicles
- Report major equipment repair and maintenance issues as needed
- Assist with training employees on safety procedures, equipment operation, and work methods
- Periodically supervise small work crews during assigned projects
- Review and update plans, maps, and data related to City street systems
- Operate vehicles up to and including Class "A" CDL vehicles with air brakes
- Participate in snow removal operations during inclement weather events
- Perform all work in compliance with established City safety standards
Minimum Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen or lawfully authorized alien worker. High School graduate or GED certificate.
- One (1) year as a Master Street Maintenance Worker or seven (7) years of applicable experience with street maintenance operations which includes at least one (1) year total experience operating an excavator, asphalt paver, and cold plane mill.
- Must have a Class "A" CDL valid in the state of Missouri or obtain within 120 days of employment. A commercial driver's instruction permit (CDIP) must be obtained within 60 days of employment.
- Skilled in the operation of light and heavy equipment.
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move more than 90 lbs.
- Ability to read plans and blueprints.
Desired Qualifications
- Working knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation.
- Working knowledge of City streets.
- Extensive skills in operating and maintaining a variety of tools and light and heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of concrete flatwork and asphalt paving. Knowledge of utility locate procedures.
- Skilled in welding and fabrication. Certification in Work Zone Safety.
- Experience operating and maintaining paving equipment.
