Job Summary
Share your passion for skating and help others build their skills on the ice. Under general supervision, the Ice-Skating Instructor plays a key role in delivering high-quality skating lessons while supporting the overall guest experience at the St. Peters Rec-Plex.
Starting pay for Instructor Trainees is $13.75/hour. Upon completion of trainee requirements, full Instructors are paid $21.00/hour.
Normal Shift: Varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Instruct group classes and private ice-skating lessons.
- Maintain class attendance records and administer skating testing.
- Assist with annual competitions and shows.
- Provide responsive, friendly service by addressing guest questions and concerns.
- Administer first aid when needed and uphold safety and sanitation standards.
- Prepare the ice, facility, and equipment to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.
- Communicate Rec-Plex policies, procedures, and programs to guests.
- Accurately maintain all required records.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be at least 17 years of age.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or lawfully authorized alien worker.
- Must be able to maintain Professional Instructors membership with ISI.
- Must accept delegated responsibilities willingly.
- Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays, as required.
- Must be able to maintain a positive self-image for the City and Department.
Desired Qualifications
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge and experience in both ISI and USFS.
- Experience teaching Axel and above elements.
Additional Information
New hires will be designated and paid as an Instructor Trainee until they have met the following requirements:
- Complete 96 hours (approximately 6 months) or equivalent coaching hours/experience.
- Complete the ISI Online Group Lesson Instructor Course.
- Complete ten (10) one-on-one group coach-training sessions with a Recreation Leader.
- Receive approval from a Recreation Supervisor through observations and evaluation.
- Trainees must also maintain Professional Instructors membership with ISI.
