In this role, you’ll develop and oversee after-school programs, coordinate educational and recreational classes, and promote activities through community partnerships, schools, and outreach. This position reports to the Recreation Superintendent and works Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with some evening hours required for programs and events.

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
- Plans, promotes, and carries out recreation and educational programs; promotes programs and activities through brochures, news releases, and contacts with schools, participants, and parents.
- Schedules and promotes recreational and educational activities/classes.
- Completes time sheets, accidents and incident reports, participation reports, and cost analysis and cost recovery reports.
- Develops goals and objectives for areas of functional responsibility consistent with department.
- Defines, implements, and enforces all program policies and procedures, rules, regulations, and guidelines for employees, participants, visitors, and their respective conduct.
- Plans, develops, and coordinates age and developmentally appropriate camp and afterschool program curriculum including but not limited to; crafts, sports, games, drama, nature awareness, trips, speakers and other socialized activities.
- Creates, develops and coordinates educational programs geared toward youth, young adults and families, including but not limited to the home school community.
- Ensures safety of the afterschool program site and participants.
- Responds to citizen/participant inquiries for information and complaints.
- Assists in special event planning and creates new special events for the community.
- Works with non-profit groups and develops partnerships in the community for cooperative programs.
- Assists in the preparation of the recreation budget, monitors and enforces spending limitations within that budget.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Back up to other supervisors within the Recreation Division.
Requires a High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by two (2) years of experience working in leisure services, education or the recreation field; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Five (5) years of experience preferred.
Associate's degree in child development, Education or Recreation or Leisure Services preferred.
Certified in CPR and First Aid
Certified Park and Recreation Professional certification preferred

Mathematics:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Language Ability:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Reasoning:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
