The City of St. Cloud is hiring an Aquatics Supervisor for our Aquatics Division!

This leadership role provides year-round oversight at the Chris Lyle Aquatic Center. The Aquatics Supervisor plays a key part in keeping our facility safe, clean, and welcoming for the community. Responsibilities include maintaining water quality, enforcing safety rules, responding to emergencies, and delivering excellent customer service. You’ll also train and supervise a team of lifeguards, instructors, and support staff, while helping promote aquatic safety programs for all ages.

We’re looking for someone who demonstrates accountability in keeping our guests safe, takes ownership of facility operations, feels empowered to lead and support their team, and brings innovation to improve programs and the overall customer experience.

This position requires a minimum of 40 hours per week. The facility operates seven days a week, so early mornings, evenings, and some holidays are required.

Candidates must have a current Lifeguard and/or Lifeguard Instructor certification and experience guarding water depths of at least 12.5 feet. CPR and first aid skills are essential.

If a fully qualified candidate is not identified, swim evaluations may be conducted once the facility reopens in May.

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
  • Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
  • Oversees maintenance and cleaning schedules.
  • Assists in creating and implementing an emergency action plan and other operational policies/procedures; evaluates and adjusts policies/procedures on an ongoing basis. Trains staff to meet and exceed standards at in-service. 
  • Assists in administering membership services and facility rentals, including coordination and sales.
  • Enforces facility rules and policies promptly and courteously and coaches' staff to do the same.
  • Responds to and resolves customer complaints, questions, and suggestions.
  • Monitors inventory of and procures pool, maintenance, chemical, medical, training, and program supplies.
  • Documents program participation and daily attendance.
  • Develops strategies to motivate staff to achieve goals and meet safety and customer service standards
  • Prepares reports and maintains records.
  • Lifeguards, teaches aquatics classes, hosts events/rentals, and/or administers pool activities as needed.
  • Must be able to work a varied schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
Requires an Associate's degree in Recreation or related field supplemented by two (2) to four (4) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

  1. Must possess current Lifeguard or CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.
  2. Must have the ability to complete the Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification within 6-months from date of employment.
  3. Must possess Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification within 6-months from date of employment.
  4. Water Safety Instructor (WSI) preferred.
  5. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Mathematics:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Language Ability:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situation to customers, clients and other employees of the organization

Reasoning:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruction furnished in writing, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Works in an office and indoor/outdoor aquatics atmosphere with potential exposure to heavy chemical presence. The Aquatics Supervisor may be exposed to heat, cold, and temperature swings.
