Crossing Guard - Part-time

The City of St. Charles Police Department is seeking hardworking and reliable applicants to interact with residents and community members and be responsible for ensuring the safety of students commuting to and from school during the morning and afternoon hours throughout the school year. Crossing Guards also work City special events to assist with traffic and crowd control.
Positions are available for regularly scheduled and substitute Crossing Guards. Substitutes fill in, as needed, during absences of those regularly assigned to crossings.
Shifts are approximately one hour in the morning, and 1 hour in the afternoon. The morning shifts are generally between 7:45 – 9:15 a.m. and afternoon shifts are generally between 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. depending on the school crossing assigned.
• Maintain control of children at crossing sites and ensure children cross safely and at designated sites
• Evaluate traffic and make decisions regarding stopping vehicles with the least effect on traffic flow
• Escort children across street.
• Report on student concerns as necessary
• Duties performed outdoors under all weather conditions
• Provide crowd and traffic control at City sponsored special events to support the Police department
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid State of Illinois Driver’s License
• Good communication skills to interact with children and parents
• Ability to use good judgement
• Ability to walk one block and physically hold a manual stop sign
• Vision correctable to 20/20 vision in both eyes
• Consistent attendance and punctuality are required

If selected, successful completion of a background check, physical, functional capacity evaluation, and drug screen are required.
This position pays $23.50 per morning and afternoon crossing guard shift and $17.00 per hour for training and working special events.
