What are the responsibilities and job description for the Crossing Guard - Part-time position at City of St. Charles?
Positions are available for regularly scheduled and substitute Crossing Guards. Substitutes fill in, as needed, during absences of those regularly assigned to crossings.
Shifts are approximately one hour in the morning, and 1 hour in the afternoon. The morning shifts are generally between 7:45 – 9:15 a.m. and afternoon shifts are generally between 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. depending on the school crossing assigned.
• Evaluate traffic and make decisions regarding stopping vehicles with the least effect on traffic flow
• Escort children across street.
• Report on student concerns as necessary
• Duties performed outdoors under all weather conditions
• Provide crowd and traffic control at City sponsored special events to support the Police department
• Valid State of Illinois Driver’s License
• Good communication skills to interact with children and parents
• Ability to use good judgement
• Ability to walk one block and physically hold a manual stop sign
• Vision correctable to 20/20 vision in both eyes
• Consistent attendance and punctuality are required
