What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Veterinarian position at City of Springfield (MO)?
The Zoo's animal collection is composed of many species managed through the Species Survival Plan of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, such as Asian elephant, cheetah, maned wolf, Mexican grey wolf, Malayan tiger and many more. The Zoo participates in AZA SAFE programs for threatened species such as giraffes and cheetahs and contributes to more than twenty conservation programs worldwide to save species and wildlife habitat.
The Veterinarian oversees and mentors many students doing pre-veterinary internships and veterinary school externships and preceptorships at the Zoo each semester.

Experience, Education, and Training
- Graduation from an accredited school of veterinary medicine.
Licensing/Certification
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must have a license to practice veterinary medicine;
- Must be licensed to practice in the state of Missouri within six months of employment;
- Must possess a Federal Drug Administration-Drug Enforcement Agency Certificate for all schedules within the first six months of employment;
- And the ability to secure accreditation by the United States Department of Agriculture is required.
