General Laborer - Park Maintenance - PT

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• General grounds maintenance including but not limited to: mowing, trimming of grass and bushes; snow removal; leaf removal; power washing; trash bag changes; debris pick-up; landscape maintenance
• Receive direction from the VPA Horticulturist on the maintenance of the landscaping product
• Perform custodial duties including cleaning restrooms, emptying trash, etc.
• Open/close gates
• Assist with hauling and material handling of site furniture and amenities related to park use and special events
• Inspect condition and cleanliness of venues and parks; turns in all associated work orders for repair
• Accurately fill out daily logs of work completed, works orders needed for repairs, paperwork for necessary supplies and materials
• Properly and safely operate various types of tools & equipment including but not limited to: pickup truck with plow, UTV, push lawn mowers, riding lawn mowers, weed eaters, snow blowers, hedge trimmers, shovels, rakes, brooms, tablet, cell phone, etc.
• Climb and work from ladder or high places
• Aid and assist other maintenance and operations personnel
• Maintain clean and safe work areas, tools and equipment
• Interact with co-workers and the public with tact and diplomacy
• Maintain a positive attitude and consistent performance
• Manage time, make sound decisions and work independently
•  Follow directions and relay work progress in an effective manner
• Follow safety procedures, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and maintaining a safe work environment.
• Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as apparent or as assigned

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• High school diploma or equivalent education preferred
• Experience in grounds, trades, or custodial maintenance a plus
• Knowledge of City properties and maintenance programs a plus

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

• Valid Driver's License required

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk talk and hear.  The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee must occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required in this job include close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment may be inside but will be primarily outside in various weather conditions (extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, snow, etc.). The employee frequently works in high precarious places and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee may work near water, moving mechanical parts, around fumes or airborne particles, and with vibration.  The employee may be exposed to oils, greases, solvents, and other chemicals that may be hazardous.  Noise conditions can vary from quiet to very loud.
