The City of Sioux City/Sioux Gateway Airport is seeking an energetic, flexible intern who is eager to grow professionally alongside our Airport Operations and Airfield Maintenance teams. This unique position is designed to rotate between both divisions, providing meaningful, hands-on exposure to daily airport functions, regulatory compliance, and critical operational decision-making. Throughout this eight-week program, you will gain firsthand experience with Part 139 airfield inspections, condition reporting, and the maintenance of airfield markings, lighting, and signage. You will also assist and learn about fueling operations and inspections, emergency preparedness, wildlife hazard management, and airport security operations, ensuring safety and efficiency during daily activities and active construction projects.
This internship offers up to 25 hours per week for a maximum of eight weeks, with a schedule that may fluctuate to meet the needs of our 365-day operation. Because the airport remains active from early morning until late at night, the selected candidate must be adaptable to changing shifts. Interested applicants must possess a valid U.S. driver's license and be able to pass a 10-year Criminal History Record Check along with all applicable TSA security reviews.Cognitive Demands, Skills and Abilities: Ability to follow instructions and accept constructive criticism; Ability to speak clearly so others can understand you, ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer), ability to see details at a distance, ability to identify and understand the speech of another person, ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

Language Ability and Interpersonal Communication: Ability to express oneself clearly both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees and the general public; Requires effective communication skills and the ability to provide assistance to customers (external and internal). Requires the ability to write and speak clearly, distinctly and effectively with fellow employees and the general public; read in English and compare similarities and differences between words and series of numbers; apply common sense understanding to the work process, procedures, programs and services; and to provide and follow verbal and written instructions.
Physical Requirements: Regularly lifts up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifts up to 30 pounds. Good physical condition.
Work Environment: Work may be performed inside a typical inside office environment with appropriate heating and cooling or in outdoor field conditions, which include varying weather conditions, occupational or environmental hazards typically associated with general public contact, and varying street level noises; and touring work sites that are in various stages of development.

Must have a work experience/educational agreement between the City and the educational institution in which they are enrolled and must have a valid driver's license.
