What are the responsibilities and job description for the TRAFFIC CONTROLLER I position at City of Shreveport?
The Traffic Controller I serves as a junior member of a two (2) person crew that rides in and works from a city vehicle with two-way radio and flashing light. 1). High School Diploma and GED, or the equivalent.
2). Must possess a valid vehicle operator's license.
3). Physical stamina; manual dexterity; eye-hand-foot coordination; spatial and form perception; and ability and willingness to follow instructions.
4). Ability to acquire during working test (probationary) period, working knowledge of the Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) issued by the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highways Commission within one (1) year of employment.
1. Operates hand-operated pole driver, "twister and puller" instrument, portable washing machine and various hand tools to install, straighten, repair, replace and clean traffic signs.
2. Paints curbs with spray gun and hand paint brush.
3. Assists in setting up barricades for work zones and special events.
4. Uses silk screen method, spray gun and hand brush, as applicable, to paint and create traffic and street signs.
5. Able to use drafting instruments, draw letters and numbers and cuts them to prescribed size for affixing to signs.
6. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Must be able to climb ladders, reach, stoop, and kneel, all while lifting, carrying, pulling or pushing moderately heavy loads.
2. Hand motions include grasping and turning. Requires the senses of touch, seeing, hearing, and speaking, all of which may be performed under difficult physical conditions. 3. Requires color, sound, depth and visual perception and discrimination.

WORKING CONDITIONS
1. A significant portion of the work is performed in the field where exposure to electrical shock, traffic hazards, and variable weather conditions are common.
2. As required, may be assigned to work overtime, weekends, and holidays. Work includes periodic standby duty assignments.
Travel:
Travel will be required locally from location to location to accomplish job assignments and visit job sites.
