What are the responsibilities and job description for the Inspector II position at City of Shreveport, LA?
Class Title
The Inspector II, Buildings works to ensure that residential and commercial, new and existing construction is built, and/or renovated in compliance with the City’s
Comprehensive Building Code through inspection and information sharing.
Duties
2. Examine applications for permits and accompanying plans, plats, blueprints and Specifications
3. Conducts on-site inspections of new installations, alterations and repairs.
4. Directs corrective actions to ensure conformity with Code or halts work, as appropriate
5. Records results of inspections on specified forms.
6. Investigates reports of unauthorized work and direct discontinuance pending receipt of formal application for such work by the City.
7. Upon final insection, approves applications which conform within the Code.
8. Inspector II, Buildings works under the general direction of the Chief Building Official or his designee.
9. Maintans applicable files and records
10. Communicates and compiles reports using basic computer programs.
11. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Graduate, GED, or the equivalent.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the Construction field or equivalent.
- Possess Building Official Certification through International Code Council.
- Thorough knowledge of all International Building and Residential Codes.
- Customer service skills and the ability to gather and evaluate facts and a demeanor that generates confidence, respect and trust.
- Possess a valid Louisiana Driver’s license and maintain a healthy driving record.
- Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications; compare and/or judge the

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS.
1. Tasks involve frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping; some unassisted lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
2. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. May require the ability to differentiate between colors or shades of colors.
3. Requires the ability to talk and/or hear. (talking: expressing or exchanging information by means of spoken words; hearing perceiving nature of sounds by ear)
