Trees for Neighborhoods helps residents plant, grow, care for, and celebrate Seattle’s trees—empowering all of us to keep our urban forest thriving.
In this position, you will help create volunteer opportunities for residents to care for trees and natural areas on sites that can strengthen public land and our connections to it. You will engage closely with the public and organizational partners. This work will involve creating communications materials and managing contracts to operate programs and facilities that support a healthy Seattle urban forest.
This Temp or OOC position is Part-Time .8 FTE and is expected to last between 6-8 months in duration. This opportunity is open to all qualified candidates. External candidates are [initially] non-benefited and will receive premium pay in lieu of benefits.

Primary Job Responsibilities for Trees for Neighborhoods Volunteer Program Manager:
- Work with partners to run volunteer events focused on planting and caring for trees on public property
- Work with partners to operate the Cedar City Tree Care Facility
- Work with Seattle Public Schools to plant, water, and maintain young trees
- Oversee partner agreements and billing, managing work assignments, leading development of new contracts, and tracking and reporting on program metrics
- Provide content for social media, the website, and a monthly newsletter
- Work with the Trees for Neighborhoods planting program to support residential tree planting
- Support volunteers to lead in-person Tree Walks.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience in planning and research related to land use, urban economics, human services, environmental issues, conservation, or other work directly related to City planning and development activities
Education: Bachelor's degree in Planning, Urban Design, Environmental Studies, Public Administration, or a related field (*If no degree, two (2) additional years of qualifying experience is required)
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in urban forestry or urban greening
- Community and volunteer engagement experience, including work with communities of color
- Contract development and management experience
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Excellent customer service
- Ability to convey complex technical information in engaging and easy to understand ways

The full salary range for this position is $56.23 per hour - $65.54 per hour.
*Temporary employees begin at Step 1 of the pay progression, at $56.23 per hour.
Workplace Environment/Expectation: This position allows for the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. City employees will have the option to work remotely two days a week. Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.
Work Schedule:
- Monday through Thursday OR Tuesday through Friday (32 hours per week); Primarily Day Shift; (may require some off-shift evening and/or weekend assignments)
