Community Service Officer

Position Summary

This entry-level, non-sworn position contributes to the work of the Savage Police Department by performing various law enforcement support functions as assigned. This is a part-time, uniformed position working up to 29 hours per week.

Anticipated Starting Pay: $26.77 to $28.95 per hour.

Full 2026 Pay Range: $26.77 to $35.27 per hour.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

• Assist sworn and civilian Police Department staff as assigned.
• Maintain effective community relations and represent the City with the community.
• Perform delivery and retrieval duties associated with packages, evidence, forfeited items, court documents, and other items as assigned.
• Investigate non-crime ordinance violations.
• Assist with minor traffic matters, including assisting motorists, and monitoring traffic law compliance in assigned areas.
• Perform administrative support tasks including filing, data entry, data retrieval, telephone answering, and other duties as assigned.
  
  

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled at an accredited college, university or technical school and pursing a degree in law enforcement, criminal justice or a closely related field.
• Must possess a valid and unrestricted Driver’s License.
• Must be able to pass a thorough background investigation, physical examination, and psychological evaluation.
  
  

Supplemental Information

Position is eligible for paid holidays, sick and vacation time. This position is eligible for the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) pension plan.
