MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree in Library Science from a library school that is accredited by the American Library Association or recognized by the New York State Education Department as following accepted education practices (some universities have renamed their programs and no longer designate the degree as a Master’s in Library Science—contact the New York State Library’s Division of Library Development for assistance).
- Four (4) years of full-time experience as a professional Librarian, at least two (2) years of which have been in a supervisory capacity, subsequent to the MLS.
DUTIES:
- This is advanced professional work involving overall responsibility for a major functional area of the library, such as Adult Services, Youth Services, or Circulation & Technical Services.
- The Librarian III has responsibility for the coordination, administration, and policy implementation for the assigned area to ensure efficient operation.
- The Librarian III performs work with minimal supervision and with much latitude in developing, administering, and implementing a program of service encompassing information services, outreach, programming, resource development, training and staff development, project management, and leadership for the assigned department.
- The Librarian III reports to the Library Director, and exercises supervision over the work of subordinate professional, paraprofessional, and clerical staff and volunteers.
- Performs related work as required.
