Under general supervision of the IT Manager, the IT Technician performs first-line technical support to end users for the set-up, maintenance, and troubleshooting of desktop and laptop computers, peripherals, and basic network connectivity; and works closely with the IT team to ensure that all systems are secure, and operate efficiently, reliably and to City standards.

The following duties are typical for the IT Technician classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
- Maintains connectivity with City network, diagnoses and troubleshoots basic problems with desktops, laptops, and peripheral equipment;
- Assists end-users with troubleshooting basic software, hardware, and network issues;
- Sets-up and configures new computers and related equipment to City standards, including replacing or upgrading hardware components such as RAM, hard drives, monitors, and keyboards;
- Installs and updates operating systems and approved software packages; supports network printers, scanners, and shared drive access;
- Conducts systems and database back-ups as necessary and ensures back-ups are functional;
- Performs basic network administration duties such as monitoring or adding applications, users and devices, modifying user profiles, re-setting passwords and file maintenance; documents all network changes and revisions;
- Participates in various IT projects such as hardware refreshes and software deployments;
- Assists with IT inventory tracking and equipment documentation;
- Conducts training sessions with desktop users; provides information on system and application functions; communicates user access rights;
- Stays abreast of new information technology trends and innovations; reads appropriate literature and attends training as necessary;
- Maintains accurate and complete records and provides reports to IT Manager regarding system hardware and software components and performance, and end users problems and issues;
- Ensures all systems comply with City’s IT security and data protection policies; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION: An Associate of Science degree or equivalent in Information Science, Computer Science or a related field; and
EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of recent experience in the installation, use, maintenance and support of computer hardware, software and related peripheral equipment in a networked environment.
A CompTIA A certification or equivalent training is highly desirable.

The City may change this interview date at its discretion due to departmental staffing and operational needs.
The applicant selected will be subject to a criminal history investigation through the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and a thorough background check. A waiver for reference and background information must be completed.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver's license is required at time of appointment. A safe driving record is required and must be maintained during period of employment.
City of Santee employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
Salary : $60,174 - $73,133
